Apple.ca: Reserve & Pick Up iPad 2 At Your Local Apple Store

by on March 28th, 2011

As Apple Canada wraps up its iPad 2 launch weekend, the company has sold out of iPad 2 devices in almost every Apple Store Canada-wide.

To assist with inventory levels, and avoid long lines, Apple Canada has now enabled users to reserve an iPad 2 online for pick-up at their local Apple Store.

Customers may reserve an iPad after 9PM local time for pickup the next day at their favourite Apple Retail Store. Reservations are based on availability and shipments arrive regularly.

The process is simple:

1.) Visit your local Apple Store website. For example: www.apple.ca/richmondcentre

2.) Under the iPad 2 banner, choose “Reserve Now”.

3.) Choose your iPad 2 devices, sign in with your Apple ID, and confirm your reservation. Limit two per reservation.

The reservations are only available if store inventory is available. Once you make the reservation, you pay in-store for your items.

Currently, all stores show “Unavailable” due to lack of iPad 2 stock:

I snagged a 32GB Black WiFi tonight via Apple Store reservation — but when I went to my cart I was told to the effect of “one reservation per Apple ID only” and I was turned down. Dang, and all because of the Friday reservation that I couldn’t fulfill! By the time I’d set up an alternate Apple ID using a different email address, the local Apple Stores’ reservations were all taken. I’ll try again on Saturday night! This is fun!

Thanks iPadinCanada, if I hadn’t read this article, I would still be waiting for my iPad that I ordered

Sent from my new iPad 2

Worked Brilliantly. Got my 64gb black wifi model from the Yorkdale store today. Canceled my online order for the iPad but the smart cover already shipping. (missed it on friday too, oh well wait until monday for the cover but at least i have the iPad.

Thanks for the notice about reservations!

    Booya!

Stupid Apple Sainte Catherine. I reserved a 64gb 3g black thursday night. I work long days at the hospital so arrived to pick up friday night. They said they miscounted the stock and didn’t have any in stock left. Told me I had to reserve again. Of course that night every model was available to reserve except that one. I curse you Apple. Better call before coming, and don’t come too late…

You’re welcome and good on you for offering your second iPad 2 up for cost!

  • http://twitter.com/TeamSober #TeamSober

actually you have to pay $15 lol.. but still better then full price

  • iPad Fan

I was on last night at 9PM and got the 64 GB Black WiFi from Yorkdale, but by the time I completed the order, it said it was gone… :(

I guess you were the lucky one. I’m glad that I didn’t lose mine out to someone that was just buying it to turn a profit (not to say that you took mine…)

  • luc

and in Vancouver they were gone tonight in 30 sec… no doubt the speculators are employing automatic bots to hit the reservation system. I hope they all get stuck with loads of iPads to get rid of.

iPad2Tracker.com allows you to search the local inventory of most major Canadian iPad 2 retailers (BestBuy, Future Shop, Apple Stores) – it might help some of you. http://www.ipad2tracker.com/canada-ipad2tracker.html

AHA! I know what I was doing wrong now!

Somehow I was clicking on a “Reserve now” link that when I selected my store took me directly to the iPad2 listings… the link that comes up if you google for “oakridge apple store”. If you don’t select a store, you get an error, and then on subsequent tries, you get a page that lists various products. And tonight for the first time I saw product… only 16GB and 64GB models unfortunately. But now I know what to do and can try again tomorrow!!!

TL;DR: If you choose your store and it goes directly to unavailable iPad listings, you’ll never reserve an iPad. It needs to come up with “Choose your product”, and then you’ll see ipads.

I must have been within the 30-second window, because I not only successfully reserved a 16GB WiFi Black, but got a confirmation email, too. Off to Pac Centre tomorrow!

  • http://twitter.com/kelvinkwok Kelvin Kwok

I refreshed site at 9pm. 9:00:30 PM they were all gone.

By the time I entered my apple ID, no longer available. lol

    I’ll try again tomorrow.

  • Gunfus

You got to try a few stores at the same time it doesnt look like all stores are getting stock

  • Anonymous

    $15 for what?

  • Senladar

I don’t understand, can you explain this a bit more? I click on “Reserve now” then select my store and hit next and I’m taken to “Choose Product” with all 12 iPads as “unavailable”. I just keep refreshing on this page but it never changes :/

Tried last 4 nights, but see nothing but unavailable forever…..

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/ Ex

    Read the post.
    9pm

  • Senladar

Yes, I understand 9pm; for the last 4 nights I’ve refreshed the page on 2 computers for all 3 stores in BC from 8:45 –> 9:45 and seen nothing but unavailable. I don’t even think the stupid site works.

  • Orrisachar

Just out of curiosity….is there a point in buying an iPad with 3G capability if you own an iPhone 4? I mean it’s cheaper to hotspur your iPhone data then to have two data plans right?

  • Orrisachar

I meant to say hotspot there…damn iPhone autocorrect

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/ Ex

It’s all taken within the first few seconds.

  • luc

You don’t have to carry both to get access. It’s $100 difference, so maybe it’s worth having the capability even if you don’t use it. Rogers also offers a data sharing plan, for $10 extra.

  • Julie

Pickup question: is it anytime on the pickup day? I read that in the US, you have to pickup between 9am and 3pm…

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/ Ex

    You choose a time

  • Julie

Thnx for the reply…how big a window?

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/ Ex

    1 hour

  • luc

    Just call the store…

  • TB

Ahh! I reserved my 32GB black, but my reservation doesn’t show up in the system, and I haven’t yet received an email… How long does it take for this to show up?

  • TB

    Wait, there’s the email!!!

  • luc

    Me too!

  • TB

    OK, here’s my observation.

If you’re on a page that says “Select a store to pick up your iPad.”, I’ve never, ever seen a reservation.

If you can get to a page that says “Choose a store” product shows up. I think the trick is to click “select” so fast on the “select a store to pick up your ipad” page that you get an error that says “Try again”.

    I have my reservation. WOOOOOOT!

  • TB

Your Apple product(s) have been reserved. Come to the store on your designated day and a friendly Specialist will be there to assist you. We’ll have your items ready and can help you check out.

    I think I got the only iPad available at Oakridge… the 32GB Black wifi I wanted. :) :) :) :)

  • TB

Check my above post. I was having the same problem. Something is weird with the reservation site. You need to be on the general “reservation” site rather than the “iPad reservation site”.. The only way I know how to get there is to click too quickly when asked for the store, it takes me to another page asking me to try again and then I get a different page that takes me to an intermediary page of various products, not just iPads… That’s the page that’s let me see sales.

  • Gunfus

Hahah I was also getting nervous, I isn’t receive the email until a bit later… I was thinking it was immediate but nope it takes a bit. I amgoing tommorow (today) at lunch

  • Gunfus

Yeaahh! I don’t have to wait, and I save 100 and so dollars since I went for the wifi instead or 3G!!

  • http://twitter.com/Daniel_Zac Daniel Z

Credit card limit has just been decreased by the amount of an 32gb ipad 2, which means I should be waking up tomorrow morning to a shipping notification! Looks like the Canadian iPads are ready to be shipped!

  • kc

Works perfectly! Logged on 9 PM PST. 9:01, got my 32gb WIFI white.
    vancouver, pacfic centre.

there were also black 16, 64 wifi
    and assorted 16,32,64 wifi+3g

    All sold out buy 9:05

  • kc

    helpful tip
    use this link
http://www.apple.com/ca/retail/ (there is a link that says Reserve Now)
    OR
    http://reserve.apple.com/WebObjects/ProductReservation.woa/wa/reserveProduct?lang=en&country=CA&prelaunch=MC769C_A

From here all you do is click Province/Store

It will take you directly to ipad availabilty without you using another page through the standard reserve link which makes you choose between products before you go to the ipad only page.

  • kc

i tried with the ipad reservation site and it worked fine.. but that was today! got a shiny new 32 white wifi.

  • HighApple

The worst thing happened to me, i checked at 9pm and the fairview store had most of them in stock and when i reserved 1, i followed the steps and on the last step when it asks to confirm… i kept getting a message saying

#pick up at this locations isnt available#

Thats not cool, i kept trying over and over again and it didint work, and now when i checked at 12;40, it said all of them were unavaailble, now i kind of wish i didint return my dented ipad 2 that i waited 7 hours for….

did this happen to anyone elseÉ

  • Mikevans75

This is all very nice if there was any availability!

  • Joe Beef

I’ve had it with the B.S. reserve nonsense! My time is more valuable than sitting in front of the computer and trying to “win” an iPad like concert tickets from a radio station! I don’t mind waiting the three weeks for it to ship from China. But does anyone know if you get dinged with the outrageous UPS brokerage fees? The online store says shipping and customs fees are included. But what about brokerage? I ordered a $100 item from the U.S a few weeks ago and got a $51 brokerage fee from UPS. On an $850 iPad that will be another $70. Anyone know for sure?

  • md123

No brokerage fees if you go through the apple Canada store. Not sure if there are any if you go through the US version of their site. I bought a macbook pro from the Canadian apple store 3 years ago and it came via FedEX direct from China and it was just as if I had ordered something from futureshop online.

  • Joe Beef

Thank You! I got the same answer from Apple’s customer service people. It took me three tries in the last couple of days to get someone who knew what I was talking about! I ordered it over the phone with the very helpful lady and I should have mine on or about May 2nd! It’s going to be a long three weeks…

    Thanks again!

  • asdmd

Did anyone have luck online yesterday, no matter what store stock I looked at, everything was ‘unavailable’
