Apple.ca: Reserve & Pick Up iPad 2 At Your Local Apple Store

As Apple Canada wraps up its iPad 2 launch weekend, the company has sold out of iPad 2 devices in almost every Apple Store Canada-wide.

To assist with inventory levels, and avoid long lines, Apple Canada has now enabled users to reserve an iPad 2 online for pick-up at their local Apple Store.

Customers may reserve an iPad after 9PM local time for pickup the next day at their favourite Apple Retail Store. Reservations are based on availability and shipments arrive regularly.

The process is simple:

1.) Visit your local Apple Store website. For example: www.apple.ca/richmondcentre

2.) Under the iPad 2 banner, choose “Reserve Now”.

3.) Choose your iPad 2 devices, sign in with your Apple ID, and confirm your reservation. Limit two per reservation.

The reservations are only available if store inventory is available. Once you make the reservation, you pay in-store for your items.

Currently, all stores show “Unavailable” due to lack of iPad 2 stock:

    But a few minutes ago, I actually was lucky enough to reserve one. They sent me a confirmation email and everything. I am going to the apple store tomorrow to purchase it. I hope I don’t get played because when I check back, it says unavailable. Maybe I was just the lucky one. The picture included was taken from the actual email by the way.

    Well that is a concern right now for me. But I guess now apple uses ipad meaning ipad 2 and ipad (first generation) to differentiate between them. I am not 100% sure right now… hope for the best?

    I think it will be very difficult to reserve what you want. Best chances are being at the store at 10am when it opens and they luckily have new stock.

    Don’t they set aside the stock for the customers using their reservation service online? The apple staff even said that they didn’t want line ups, that’s why they set the reservation service up on their website.

    I got the same reservation message as well. I have also received an email confirmation that it will be ready to pick up tomorrow at Oakridge. Haven’t tried logging on to confirm.

    Pacific Centre only showed availability of white 16gb wifi, so I quickly refreshed at Oakridge, I noticed that Oakridge had availability on all models/all colours when they popped, but were all gone within a minute or so.

    Likewise – all were gone within a minute. I reserved mine, rang a friend to tell him they were available. He choose one, went back to choose a different model and all were gone, including the one he’d already chosen. Brutal!

    Same thing with me. I couldn’t believe it actually. Also, if you read the confirmation email, they keep mentioning the iPhone? Maybe its just a standard email format for everything? I hope so. If it was a mistake, I’ll demand a free ipad from them at the store tomorrow hahaha

    I am amaze the reserve was only available for like 5mins, and then all gone. Glad I get one just in time. My confirmation said it is and iPad though. I kinda like this reserve system, better just keep going to the store to check if there is any stock or keep calling if there is anything coming in.

    Hrmm.. As soon as it became available I hit reserve and for day I just hit submit/save… which was for Monday March 28th… I got the confirmation email to pick it up on Monday the 28th.. the store is already closed of course.. I couldn’t change it to 29th… did I mess that up?

    I am sure you will be fine. The Apple Stores don’t sell still sell the old one and I ordered both a white and a black one. They don’t have iPad 1′s in white and it would make sense to sell old black ones and new white ones. Off to the Eatons Centre I go tomorrow! Pretty good deal. I get it five days after launch with no waiting in line.

    Was able to score an iPad 2 64 GB 3G Black from Rideau store in Ottawa. Used the reservation system last night, but they didn’t have many as all models became available at 9pm and were gone at 9:15. Just bring up the model page and keep refreshing starting at 8:55, the reserve buttons will flash by so be quick!

    The reservation system worked great. I reserved last night, walked into the Apple store at Oakridge at lunch time. Walked out in minutes with a new iPad. The apple store employee told me that all of the iPads are reservation only. No walk ins yet it would appear, but I don’t know if that’s on a store by store basis or what.

    9:01 finally got it to work, typing as fast as I can on my iPhone reserved the 16 gb white, putting my apple I’d, finished. Guess what it said product not avaliable. And this was within a less than a minute of me writing my id. Fml

    Was lucky to find and reserve a 16gb wifi black at yorkdale mall;) checked at 9pm sharp and a minute after a few started showing up in many locations across Ontario and by the timeI finished reserving mine they were all gone!

    I used Firefox + Check4Change to reload every minute between 8:50 and 9:01 or 9:02 , at which point the Apple store in Fairview Pointe Claire had most models available for reservation. Reserved for pickup tomorrow. Woot.

    I had my iphone/laptop both refreshing.. but the one that got it, was when i opened up a new browser window and started from the apple.ca page after 9pm.

    I think maybe refreshing just doesn’t work.. give that a try tomorrow.

    I just reserved a 32gb wi-fi + 3G for pickup tomorrow (march 30) at Oakridge. I’ve been checking the site all evening and right at 9pm stock was suddenly available. I checked the three stores in BC and they all had stock show up for reservation at 9pm. It was all gone by 9:15.

    I’m still feeling a bit bummed that I waited up until 1AM the day they came out to order online, and then when I decided to change my order in the morning (to remove the laser engraving), it meant the delivery would take another week (they had to cancel the order to change it)

    Reserved monday night at 9pm, thought that even though i got a conformation email it was rather fast. I checked the site right after reserving a 64GB 3G black model and there was absolutely nothing in stock. When i picked up the ipad on Tuesday night at oakridge, most of the staff was saying it was like i won the lottery as the top model is scarce and they all wanted it. Well at least i did not have to wait forever in a lineup.

    Check every night right a 9pm if your still looking. Oakridge, Pacific Center then Richmond in that order as a store person mentioned to me Oakridge might get stock before downtown for instore pickup.

    Just got my iPad 2 last night at futureshop. If you check the day you can view store inventory and two stores in nova scotia had several on hand. Just go to the iPad on e futures op site and checknstore inventory and bam u might be in luck.

    I also checked at the Pacific Centre store this morning and they will not sell iPads to members of the public without a reservation. While I can understand allocating a large portion of your stock to online resos… it seems odd that they will not sell you an iPad as a walk in, given they are demo’ing them in store.

    Kind of a frusterating experience all around as I never saw any stock online last night from 8:50 – 9:20 pm PST on multiple computers and stores (not just refreshing the page) and even if you’re the first person at the store, they won’t sell you one.

    Picked mine up via reservation this morning. The Apple stores are pretty much only selling them via reservations right now. I was told today that if stock is on hand that isn’t reserved the night before, they will sell that to walk in traffic, but given how fast the reservations are all spoken for that isn’t going to be likely for awhile. Also, if one is reserved and not picked up the next day, it will be for sale on the floor the next day. They are trying to eliminate people lining up and waiting for shipments to arrive and be processed. The website is a little misleading that they are not putting fresh stock out on the sales floor when it arrives, only the stock not reserved the previous night.

    On a whim, I put my name down on a wait-list at my local London Drugs shortly after 5 pm Friday. I was pleasantly shocked yesterday morning to get a phone call saying they’d received a new shipment. Thirty minutes later I had a white 64G Wi-Fi iPad2 in my hands–no line-up, no wait.     Actually finding an Ipad 2 in vancouver atm isn’t hard, I tracked down at least 6-8 ipad 2 today. But none in the model i want, which is 16 gb white 3G.

    Apple should just stop shipping to all stores until every online order is satisfied. Because that makes sense for their business. It’s not like they already have your money from your online order and you’ll wait no matter what…oh wait…

    I managed to reserve 64GB with 3G white right at 9:00PM @ Quebec St.Catherine. It’s to be picked up tomorrow anytime. I’ll cancel my online order before I pay at the store. All the available product got reserved under 4 minutes so I recommend refreshing the site none-stop at 9:00PM to reserve one. I’m so happy :) won’t have to wait until April 22nd!

    It’s Wednesday night 11:50 pm EST and Ottawa Rideau Centre still has a few 64gb wifi 3G models available as well as 16 gb units. I was expecting them to be snagged up around 9pm but almost midnight and there are still some available, so if you live in Ottawa go to their web-site quick and place your order, I just did :-)

    For those who don’t have an apple store near them, calling us lazy? You may have lined up or reserved yours but some people like me live out of town and don’t have the ability to drive for hours and line up. So yes, agreed with the first comment before you came bitchin, apple should focus on online orders as much as they are with their store product.

    What we are saying is, Apple should ship the smart cover with or after we receive the iPad 2. We are not complaining about not getting an immediate shippment. What should we do with a smart cover without a iPad2, that’s what we are discussing.

    I don’t disagree with you entirely, but that being said, those of us with big girl jobs, who then have to pick up a kid from daycare and get her fed and down to sleep, and then with our rare free time in the evenings try to work out or play sports, or maybe shop for something we need (like food…Apple products are not needed), or stay home so that our spouse can work out or play sports have better things to do than stand in line forever. Plus, being six months pregnant, the notion of standing in line forever sounds extra tortuous and would involve buying some Depends. Apple doesn’t have to fulfill online orders instantly, but sending out a few probably wouldn’t kill them. Or make us wait two weeks, not four. That’s not asking too much. And from what I understand, you are not billed until they ship, so actually they don’t have any money.

    All that being said…mine is a gift from my husband and is currently set to arrive right after my birthday, so as long as we get it just before they say we’ll get it, I’m covered.

    Reservation worked for me in BC. Stock gets posted at 9pm, you have about 5 minutes to get the popular models and about 8-10 minutes to get the expensive 3G models. When refreshing the reservations page, note that you actually have to select your store and hit submit in order to refresh. Hitting the refresh button doesn’t work.

    Also note that by default it will offer you the current day as the day to pickup, which on half of the week the store is already closed. I reserved for that day by accident, but I came in and they asked for some extra proof and managed to get one for me.

    For me i picked one up at richmond center today, and the light bleeding is horrible, thinking about exchanging it in the coming days.

    Was talking to Retentions because I was pissed they didn’t have the $15 share option anymore. The gal I talked to said they just got the initial info on the new share options, that they will make customers very happy and to expect an announcement soon. What it will be and how soon are anyone’s guess. I fired up the ipad2 on the 20$/500mb plan in the meantime. I have the 6gb plan for iPhone, but find it a pain to tether all the time. At least she waived the $35 activation fee for me. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for something FAIR. Unlike Rogers ridiculous share fees. Then again, at least Rogers has some sort of plan at the moment… Come on TELUS, here’s your chance to not shit the bed.

    Tonight I successfully reserved a 16GB WiFi Black iPad, but then realized that I have no way of getting down to the Pacific Centre Apple Store until Saturday! Think they’ll hold it for me until Saturday, or have I lost it because I can’t show up on my “pickup date”?

    I guess the only sure way to find out would be to make a phone call to the store when they open tomorrow. If they’ve got a firm “next day only” policy, then I’ll have to try again Friday night.

    What am I doing wrong then? I’m refreshing every 5-10 seconds on three computers. I started around 8:57pm. I’m even making sure that I go back and click next instead of hitting F5. I haven’t seen a single product listed at any of the three Vancouver stores, ever. Its getting really frustrating.

    Worse still, my iPad 2 cover came in the mail today. I don’t want to wait until the 22nd to get my iPad!

    I snagged a 32GB Black WiFi tonight via Apple Store reservation — but when I went to my cart I was told to the effect of “one reservation per Apple ID only” and I was turned down. Dang, and all because of the Friday reservation that I couldn’t fulfill! By the time I’d set up an alternate Apple ID using a different email address, the local Apple Stores’ reservations were all taken. I’ll try again on Saturday night! This is fun!

They said they miscounted the stock and didn’t have any in stock left. Told me I had to reserve again. Of course that night every model was available to reserve except that one. I curse you Apple.     Somehow I was clicking on a “Reserve now” link that when I selected my store took me directly to the iPad2 listings… the link that comes up if you google for “oakridge apple store”. If you don’t select a store, you get an error, and then on subsequent tries, you get a page that lists various products. And tonight for the first time I saw product… only 16GB and 64GB models unfortunately. But now I know what to do and can try again tomorrow!!!

    TL;DR: If you choose your store and it goes directly to unavailable iPad listings, you’ll never reserve an iPad. It needs to come up with “Choose your product”, and then you’ll see ipads.

    You don’t have to carry both to get access. It’s $100 difference, so maybe it’s worth having the capability even if you don’t use it. Rogers also offers a data sharing plan, for $10 extra.

    OK, here’s my observation.

    If you’re on a page that says “Select a store to pick up your iPad.”, I’ve never, ever seen a reservation.

    If you can get to a page that says “Choose a store” product shows up. I think the trick is to click “select” so fast on the “select a store to pick up your ipad” page that you get an error that says “Try again”.

    I have my reservation. WOOOOOOT!

    Check my above post. I was having the same problem. Something is weird with the reservation site. You need to be on the general “reservation” site rather than the “iPad reservation site”.. The only way I know how to get there is to click too quickly when asked for the store, it takes me to another page asking me to try again and then I get a different page that takes me to an intermediary page of various products, not just iPads… That’s the page that’s let me see sales.

    The worst thing happened to me, i checked at 9pm and the fairview store had most of them in stock and when i reserved 1, i followed the steps and on the last step when it asks to confirm… i kept getting a message saying

    #pick up at this locations isnt available#

    Thats not cool, i kept trying over and over again and it didint work, and now when i checked at 12;40, it said all of them were unavaailble, now i kind of wish i didint return my dented ipad 2 that i waited 7 hours for….

    did this happen to anyone elseÉ

    I’ve had it with the B.S. reserve nonsense! My time is more valuable than sitting in front of the computer and trying to “win” an iPad like concert tickets from a radio station! I don’t mind waiting the three weeks for it to ship from China. But does anyone know if you get dinged with the outrageous UPS brokerage fees? The online store says shipping and customs fees are included. But what about brokerage? I ordered a $100 item from the U.S a few weeks ago and got a $51 brokerage fee from UPS. On an $850 iPad that will be another $70. Anyone know for sure?

    No brokerage fees if you go through the apple Canada store. Not sure if there are any if you go through the US version of their site. I bought a macbook pro from the Canadian apple store 3 years ago and it came via FedEX direct from China and it was just as if I had ordered something from futureshop online.

    Thank You! I got the same answer from Apple’s customer service people. It took me three tries in the last couple of days to get someone who knew what I was talking about! I ordered it over the phone with the very helpful lady and I should have mine on or about May 2nd! It’s going to be a long three weeks…

    I just tried last night at 9pm sharp and didn’t see anything at any store in Quebec. What gives? Has anyone else tried and succeeded last night?

    I tried at 9PM (Vancouver) and nothing was available. Then at 9:04 a few items showed up, but not the one I wanted. Today I tried at 8:58 and I got lucky. I noticed that white ones were available while black ones were sold out. A short while ago the white ones were more popular.

    I tried last night at 9PM sharp too. Nothing. Then I tried 30 minutes later since i had nothing to do. Almost all ipads were available. Reserved a black 16 wifi for today. 5 hours and i’ll have mine :)

    Got my 32 GB white wifi ipad today at the Eaton centre. the stars lined up for me! I been trying to reserve it online for the past 4 days. no luck. I called the store this morning out of whim and the guy told me they just received a limited amount. My boss was nice enough to let me go pick it up. 21st in line. I was originally going to get black 16 gb wifi, but after talking to the people in line and the sales reps 16 gb was too small. They only had white which I dont mind :) So apparently, the online reservation does not work anymore and the stores are no longer bothering with it.
