On Thursday afternoon, Apple announced MobileMe support for the upcoming Apple iPad. The service, for those who subscribe to it, is identical to how it works with the iPhone and iPod Touch. This also means that if you already have MobileMe, the iPad can easily be added using your existing subscription.
Through MobileMe, the iPad supports syncing for e-mail, calendars (iCal, Outlook), contacts (Address, Outlook), and Safari bookmarks:
MobileMe keeps your email, contacts, and calendar in the “cloud” and automatically syncs across your iPad, Mac, PC, iPhone, and the web. So no matter where you go or what device you use, your information stays up to date over the air — no docking required. And if you ever lose your iPad, MobileMe can help you find it.
Like with the iPhone and iPod Touch, the iPad will also make use of the “Find My iPad” feature of MobileMe. Find My iPad can be used whether you have the WiFi iPad or the 3G + WiFi iPad, so long as you are web connected, you’re all set.
The Find My iPad feature further enables users to remotely password lock or remotely wipe their device, if the situation calls for it.
Users can pickup MobileMe for $109.00/year (online or at an Apple Store) and also receive a $30.00 discount when purchasing MobileMe with an iPad, iPhone, or Mac at an Apple Store. Users can also grab a free 60-day trial on the Apple MobileMe website.
