When the iPad launched on April 3rd in the USA, the App Store already had some iPad apps available. iOS developers were given early access to build apps as seen in these early videos. A couple days before the launch the App Store had 700 iPad apps. In just over two months since the first iPad launch and after the Canadian launch, the App Store now has eclipsed 10,000 apps.
During the iPhone 4 announcement at the 2010 WWDC, Steve Jobs explained 95% of apps are approved within 7 days. That’s a pretty decent pace and that has allowed the App Store to grow larger by the day. If apps continue to be approved at this current pace by year end we could possibly see 60,000 apps.
Most iPad apps are priced higher than iPhone apps. I am more inclined to pay for iPad apps as the experience on a large touchscreen makes the experience better compared to iPhone apps. One thing is for sure, the iPad is quickly becoming one of the best ways to consume media on a portable device. Hats off to all the developers out there that toil endlessly on creating some amazing apps for everyone.
