iPad Games: 8-Bit vs 16-Bit + Giveaway!

by on August 11th, 2011

8-Bit vs. 16-Bit is an arcade shooter where players shoot enemies as they drop across a 2D screen. The big feature of this game however is that you can toggle between playing in 8-bit mode (think Atari graphics) and 16-bit mode (think Sega Genesis) anytime during game play.

However, toggling between 8-bit and 16-bit is not just an aesthetic feature, as you can score more points and sometimes only kill the enemies in either 8-bit or 16-bit mode.

For example, if you are in 8-bit mode, you may be unable to kill certain enemies unless you are in 16-bit mode. This makes game play extremely difficult to master, since you must quickly toggle between modes while also shooting enemies by tapping on then!

8-bit vs. 16-bit also features Game Center integration which enables you to track your high scores and compete with friends.

Overall the game is challenging and fun, and while the 8-bit/16-bit switching adds a level of originality, I find the game does lack replay value. I am also looking forward to future updates to include an options menu where players can toggle the sound/music on or off and also receive a brief outline of how to play the game.

8-bit vs. 16-bit is available in the App Store for $0.99. You can also download a free version to try before buying.
