You probably read about the preview of Apple’s iPhone OS 4 from yesterday. There were a tonne of new features previewed, with one of the most important ones being multitasking.
The iPhone OS 4 preview was all fine and dandy until Steve Jobs mentioned it would be arriving in the Fall, instead of the Summer when iPhones would be getting the newest update. What would Apple’s reasoning be for not releasing iPhone OS 4 to iPad users in the summer? Maybe Apple is focusing on unleashing a new iPhone with a front facing camera?
Since the iPad is the newest hardware addition to the Apple family, Steve Jobs and Co. might be taking a different timetable for the iPad firmware update cycle. We do know that iPad owners will have free 4.x updates and will only have to pay once 5.x rolls around.
I cannot wait for multitasking to come to the iPad, as the A4 chip is more than capable of handling the new feature. Although Fall is still quite some time away, at least iPad owners have something to look forward to. What features do you want on your iPad from iPhone OS 4?
