So, the highly anticipated untethered jailbreak for iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1 is finally out and with it opens a whole new portal of Cydia tweaks for your jailbroken device. If you’re into jailbreaking (who isn’t?) and have freshly jailbroken your iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1, here are 3 must have Cydia Tweaks for your device all of which have been tested to be fully compatible.

RetinaPad

This is definitely a must get tweak for every jailbroken iPad 2 owner. Developed by Ryan Petrich, RetinaPad allows users to enable Retina display functionality for apps which were primarily designed for iPhone / iPad touch only. As a result, the iPhone / iPod touch only apps are not run at iPhone screen size or at 2x resolution (which looks pretty ugly) but instead they are rendered in a way as if they were designed for the iPad’s bigger screen. The tweak is available via the BigBoss repo for $2.99.

FullScreen for Safari

As the name implies, FullScreen for Safari adds full screen browsing capability to iPad’s Safari browser. This iPad exclusive tweak not only allows full screen web surfing but also adds functions like swipe gestures and shaking methods to perform user defined tasks such as switch between working tabs, go back, go forward and close the current tab. Once installed, tweak’s preferences can be configured via the Settings.app. FullScreen for Safari is also a commercial package, available on the BigBoss repo for $2.19.

iFile

iFile is hands down the best filesystem manager available for iOS devices today. With iFile, users get full access to device’s root and its complete file structure allowing seamless navigation through the file system with native viewing support for tons of file types including .pdf, .zip, image and video files. There is also a built in web browser with ability to send files as email attachments. The app also has full Dropbox integration. iFile is offered as a commercial package as well as a free limited trial. Full version of iFile can be bought for $4.99 from Cydia.

Absinthe iPad 2 Jailbreak Released for Mac and Windows

Yesterday @pod2g and his ‘dream team’ released the much-anticipated jailbreak for the iPad 2 via the tool called Absinthe. Currently it’s only available for Mac OS X users, however the iPhone Dev Team has released a command-line interface (CLI) version of the tool for advanced users that supports Windows. A Windows version of Absinthe will be released shortly according to the Chronic Dev Team, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, if you want to jailbreak your iPad 2 it’s fairly simple. We have some simple straight up tutorials for you to follow using Absinthe on your Mac or the CLI on Windows. Let us know how they work for you!

@Planetbeing, one of the lead members of hackers ‘dream team’, who is working real hard on releasing an A5 jailbreak (iPhone 4S/iPad 2) as soon as possible, teased his twitter followers today by posting a photo showing iOS 5 exclusive jailbreak tweak ‘IntelliScreenX’ running on his iPad 2. He also said that it was a productive day for him as he successfully tested ‘IntelliScreenX’ on both iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. Below is the photo he published.

Earlier today, @pod2g posted an image of Cydia’s start screen showing on a white iPad 2 under the title ‘iPad 2 5.0.1 untethered’ which was removed from his blog soon after for some unknown reason. Nonetheless, the above photo is proof enough for us that it won’t be long before we can get our hands on a fully working iPad 2 iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak!

Pod2g has been hard at work with his iOS hacking ‘dream team’, and previously noted the iPhone 4S jailbreak release was imminent. As for the iPad 2? He has just updated his blog with an image of Cydia’s start screen showing on a white iPad 2 (notice the front facing camera) under the title ‘iPad 2 5.0.1 untethered’. The picture was accompanied by the short and sweet message “No more to say !”.

iPad 2 iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak Coming ‘In a Week’

News has emerged over the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2. iOS hacker @pod2g previously released the untethered jailbreak for the iPad and other A4 devices, and now he tweets the iPad 2 jailbreak is expected to be released in a week:

I made a step today for the A5. With some luck we could expect a release in a week.
Yes, upgrade your 4S and iPad 2 to 5.0.1.

He also mentions it is safe to update to iOS 5.0.1 Expect the untether to be released in similar fashion via an update to redsn0w, PwnageTool, and the Corona untether available in Cydia.

Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 on the iPad Now Available via redsn0w

There has been some significant news on the jailbreak front for iOS devices thanks to the hard work of @pod2g. His work has resulted in the release of updated tools for an untethered jailbreak for the iPad 1 on iOS 5.0.1.

All you have to do is use redsn0w via The iPhone Dev Team (or use Corona in Cydia via the Chronic Dev Team if you’re already tethered on iOS 5.0.1). All iOS devices with A4 chips will benefit from this jailbreak.

Update #2: The b2 version of redsn0w includes the launchctl-related fix by @planetbeing as mentioned by @saurik here and here. As usual, you can just re-run redsn0w in jailbreak mode over your existing 5.0.1 jailbreak (even a PwnageTool one), making sure to de-select “Install Cydia” if you do. Always be sure to do a controlled “slide to power off” shutdown of your device before running redsn0w.

iPad 1 iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak Achieved by Pod2G

It looks like the iOS 5.0 untethered exploit discovered by pod2g has been successfully applied to the first generation iPad, as noted on his blog:

Code is done, testing tomorrow with a friend’s device.
Just to let you know my progress in real time.

He has also tested this iOS 5.0 untether on the following devices:

iPod touch 3g
iPod touch 4g
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
Apple TV2 on 4.4.3

There’s no ETA on a release date for this iOS 5 jailbreak. As for the iPad 2, pod2g noted he does not possess a device to test this jailbreak so that could change. Stay tuned!

MuscleNerd Jailbreaks iOS 5 On iPad 2 With Newsstand Support [VIDEO DEMO]

All of us have been eagerly waiting for an iPad 2 jailbreak beyond iOS 4.3.3 and as it seems, the wait is finally over. Just moments ago, @MuscleNerd of Dev-Team has pushed a demo video to show the world an iPad 2 running smoothly after a jailbreak on iOS 5 with full support for Newsstand.

As we are all very well aware that iOS 5 jailbreak on other devices such as iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS , iPod touch 3G/4G and original iPad renders the Newsstand folder useless. But the demo video shows that the new exploit apparently does not crash the Newsstand app. However, there is no ETA as of now for a public release.

Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 7 With Redsn0w 0.9.8 b7b On Mac & Windows

iOS 5 beta 7 is out and most of us beta testers have already updated to the latest build. Once again, Dev-Team has been quick enough to release Redsn0w 0.9.8 b7b which can jailbreak iOS 5 beta 7 tethered on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G / 3G and iPad. iPhone 3GS users with older bootrom get to enjoy an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5 beta 7 like always. If you own an iPad 2, please note that this does not currently work on it. iPad 2 can be jailbroken only on firmware version 4.3.3 or below using JailbreakMe 3.0.

Please remember that this is a developer’s only release for beta testing so please proceed at your own risk.

Update #7b: About 12 hours after we released redsn0w 0.9.8b7 with some improvements for iOS5b6, Apple went and released iOS5b7 (what are the odds of that?!?). Even though that redsn0w could still jailbreak iOS5b7, you needed to point it at the iOS5b6 IPSW to do so. Today’s redsn0w 0.9.8b7b lets you point redsn0w directly at the iOS5b7 IPSW instead.
We’ve also added some overall improvements for old-bootrom 3GS owners (where the 24kpwn exploit applies): on those devices, you can tell redsn0w to untether 4.3.5 and lower, or iOS5b7. Old-bootrom 3GS owners can once again choose custom logos, and/or verbose booting (for the really nerdy iPhone3GS fans out there!). And it allows 4.3.4 or 4.3.5 users to use ultrasn0w again (if they have a compatible baseband).

NOTE: If you rely on a carrier unlock using Ultrasn0w and want to preserve your baseband, please refer to Sn0wbreeze 2.8b7.
