In a report by Bloomberg yesterday, it was claimed that Samsung was Apple’s sole supplier of new iPad’s Retina display panels after LG and Sharp failed to meet Apple’s quality requirement. However, Reuters is now reporting (via MacRumors) that LG is also providing Retina displays for the new device.

Patently Apple is reporting that Apple has been awarded 7 new registered designs in Canada, which are considered equivalent to the US Patent and Trademark Office’s design patents. These designs cover the iPad an the Smart Cover. Interestingly, there’s a peculiarity in one of the registered designs which involves its classification detailing including the word “TV”.

Just hours ago, we published the first ever unboxing video of Apple’s new Retina iPad and now, the same folks have published Geekbench benchmarks of the device. The results reflect that the new iPad’s ‘quad-core’ graphics A5X chip contains a 1 GHz processor while there is 1 GB of RAM on board.

Last year, Apple Canada started iPad 2 sales at 5pm in the early evening, and online pre-orders started at 1AM in the morning. Canada was also part of the second wave of countries to get the iPad 2. This time around for the new iPad, we were included as part of the initial launch on Friday, March 16th.
While the official launch date of Apple’s new iPad is March 16th, lucky folks at Vietnamese website Tinhte.vn have managed to get their hands on one of the new Retina iPads and have posted an unboxing video. The video doesn’t reveal anything we don’t already know but you can always enjoy watching the first ever unboxing of Apple’s latest creation. The video also shows the LTE toggle in the settings.app.
Apple just sent out an email blast to customers that pre-ordered the new iPad last week that it will indeed arrive on Friday, March 16th for ‘Zone 1′ customers, with tracking to be available on March 15th. This essentially confirms what Apple told us with their Canadian delivery map we first noted.
