Bell LTE iPad Data Plans to Include Personal Hotspot for Free

by on March 8th, 2012

Earlier we noted Rogers would support the new iPad Personal Hotspot tethering feature, and now we have received confirmation from Bell. We spoke with Bell PR over the phone and they clarified the following:

  • New iPads will arrive with a Bell LTE microSIM
  • Existing 3G data plan users can upgrade to LTE for no extra charge; just call in and transfer your account to the new LTE microSIM
  • Personal Hotspot supported, as with all tablet data plans

So there you have it. From what it looks like, all iPad LTE data plans from the ‘Big 3′ will most likely include easy upgrades to LTE, and support tethering. We will most likely hear from Telus on the day of the new iPad launch.

Did you order an LTE model iPad and plan to use it on Bell?

Anyone know if these are unlocked? So can you have a Bell SIM here and a ATT SIM in the US?

They shouldn’t be. The iPad 1 and 2 were sold unlocked… at least in Canada anyway.

Imthink cnet means you can’t switch between verizon and att. Apple made a big thing about the new ipad being “global ready’ so I highly doubt it is carrier locked

Be careful. Bell supports tethering with their flex data plan but they charge extra usage fees beyond the regular flex data plan fees for it.

You cannot tether with Bell’s ipad flex plan. We got our bill and extra charges for tethering. Bell’s customer service is the worst, we have been fighting the charges for hours on the phone. So beware, it is not true that tethering is free, Bell does charge for tethering with the ipad!
