Trouble Logging Into Public Wifi? [Quick Tip]
by on October 4, 2010

Day 1 of my trip to the UK and I immediately met with an iPad wifi woe trying to log into the hotel’s network. After connecting to the ‘open’ wifi I was taken to a login page that asked for both a username and a password, which had been provided by the hotel. I entered these but was left floundering on the login page. I couldn’t click on ‘Go’ from the … Read More

Good Luck Getting Annotations To Stick With GoodReader [Review]
by on October 2, 2010

The GoodReader PDF app recently got a huge update with the introduction of annotations arguably the most interesting of the changes (check out the long list on the developer’s website).

The new annotations function works beautifully and intuitively (once you understand that you annotate by pressing and holding the screen).

I had lots of fun marking up and adding notes (sad, I know) but felt totally cheated … Read More

Compare Web Pages And More With Side By Side For iPad
by on September 27, 2010

The rub
Sometimes I just want to compare two websites side by side without flicking between open tabs. You? Well, ‘Side by Side‘ (formerly 4 Desktops) lets you do that and more.

How it works
Open up the app and you see two panels, side by side (wonder where they got the name for the app….). You can straight away choose between various websites, including a few … Read More

Multiple Direction Presentations On Your iPad With Present Pad
by on September 20, 2010

With Present Pad for the iPad you can set up your presentations in a ‘multi-directional’ format. What does that mean? Let me explain…

The basics
You save your final, ready-to-go Keynote or PowerPoint presentation in PDF format. You then import it into the app (see below on the two ways to do this) and drag the ‘slides’ around the editing grid, arranging them so that when presenting you can … Read More

Stream Media To Your iPad With Zumocast
by on September 13, 2010

With only a 16G iPad, I don’t have enough space to fill it up with all the media I’d love to have with me. I also have lots of files that aren’t in the ‘official’ iPad format, for example I want to play avi and flv files, which the iPad does not natively support, and don’t want to spend all my time converting files.

Enter Zumocast, a free … Read More

Slip Your iPad Into The iPad Pillow Case From Gadgetfreeway
by on September 4, 2010

Reading on your iPad in bed has its challenges. Actually, reading on it sitting on the sofa does too. It gets pretty heavy after a while and often requires contortionist feats to find a comfortable position to use it in.

Enter the iPad pillow from gadgetfreeway.

It’s a comfy pillow, with a soft tray-like edge to slot your iPad into, which then turns into a carrying case when you’re … Read More

At The End Of My Tether
by on August 30, 2010

So I own the wifi-only iPad. Which is fine, as I work from home and use wifi most of the time.

And I only have 500 Megs of 3G data a month (I know, I know, brutal) but I’d still like, on that odd occasion, to tether my iPad to my iPhone. Call me old fashioned (since this discussion has been going on pretty much since the iPad was announced).

So can … Read More

Quickly Insert An Apostrophe [iPad Keyboard Tip]
by on August 23, 2010

Feeling the frustration trying to add an apostrophe? Switching between the ‘QWERTY’ and number keyboards slowing you down?

Try this next time you need one: press and hold the comma key and you’ll see a blue square magically appear containing a white apostrophe, let go and, there you have it, apostrophe inserted.

Alternatively, simply press the comma key and quickly flick your finger upwards. Voilà! There’s the little guy.

Got a favorite keyboard … Read More

Well, hello
by on August 19, 2010

You’re probably a little tired of welcoming new writers to the iPadinCanada.ca blog right now, but just thought I’d pop by to say ‘hello’. Hello.

I’m Danielle, and unlike many of my artsy, photographer-type colleagues here at iPadinCanada, I’m a technical writer by profession. But just because that may sound dull, doesn’t mean I don’t manage to use my iPad every single day, as many times a day as possible, to … Read More
