XM Canada adds iPad support for XM online+

by on July 19th, 2010

A couple days late in reporting this, sorry kiddos, I had a busy weekend with the Giveaway. However, there is great news for XM Canada users who also own an iPad – the XM online+ App is now compatible with the iPad! From the Press Release:

The XM online+ app for iPhone(R), iPod touch(R) and now iPad is available for free at the iTunes App store. Once the app is downloaded, users can sign up for a free 14-day trial of XM online+ to get easy access to over 100 channels of the best commercial-free music, plus sports, comedy, news and entertainment programming.

“One XM online+ subscription lets you take XM anywhere,” said Janet Gillespie, Marketing Vice-President, XM Canada. “It delivers your favourite audio entertainment on a variety of mobile devices; so you can have access wherever you go. And with reports of iPad sales already surpassing the three million mark globally, we’re pleased to extend our service to Apple fans here in Canada.”

Visit XMRadio.ca for more info about XM & the costs of subscription. Or, download the Free App on the Canadian iTunes Store.

Glad to know there are at least some companies that appreciate the Canadian Market (unlike Netflix, or Hulu). Any iPad users out there who have previously used the XM App on the iPhone or iPod touch have any opinions about this?

chantelleI personally don’t have Satellite Radio, oh well.

It is more an issue with CRTC and rights to content, most companies would be here in a heartbeat however the regulations and content rights do not allow it.

See the G&M report this a.m. which suggests that Netflix will launch in Canada later this year. It would be neat if we could use our iPads with Netflix!

Don't see an update available to the app. Still says “released Dec. 1, 2009” and it's still listed as version 1.0.

  • I completely understand why Hulu and the ABC App aren't in Canada, that's a CRTC issue – but the reason why Netflix hasn't opened a Canadian business is still unclear as we have Zip.ca – so clearly the business model isn't against CRTC regulations. But, this might be moot, as Netflix announced today plans to start streaming in Canada this fall 🙂

  • That is strange… huh. I wonder if the App update hasn't been approved yet or what?
