VLC Media Player for iPad Released in Canadian App Store

by on September 20th, 2010

Some amazing news folks–VLC Media Player is now LIVE in the Canadian App Store! This much anticipated app is now available for download (don’t forget about Zumocast too) Here’s the app description:

VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework, that plays most multimedias files and various streaming protocols.

It is simple to use, yet very powerful and extendable.

VLC has all codecs built-in. It comes with support for nearly all codec there is. And what is more it can even play back the file or media if it is damaged! Missing or broken pieces are no stop to VLC, it plays all the video and audio information that’s still intact.

I’m going to go test this out right now. You should too! Click here to download VLC for iPad.

how is it working with x264 mkv files? 720p, 1080p?

One of the major problems with this app, and a lot of the others… there is no way just to play native movies over wifi?

Is there some sort of block on application developers accessing the LAN without having proprietary software on the host computer to serve the files? Why can’t they just use SMB or whatever to connect to a server?

i installed some rmvb files but VLC does not see it?

how does one delete added movie files within VLC app within iTunes? Only see “Add” and “Save as”… please help

I have a corrupt file I can’t delete, they needed to fix this before releasing it to the public. Over wi-fi streaming would be a bonus for a future update!

Too bad, in my case app keeps crashing everytime i try to open it, happened after i transfered a movie to it.

Good in theory, but this app is absolutely useless to me – every time I attempt to play a file I get a message saying that the iPad may not be powerful enough to play the file. If I click on ‘try anyway’, the playback is horrible.

    totally not working.

What I did was uncheck the sync box against the app in Itunes and then synced and that got rid of the movies, at least the available space went back to what it was before.

The Air Video app works really well. When I convert hi def moves to itunes format, I usually lose any subtitles, so play anything with subtitles through Air Video, works like a charm.

  • Wuju

Any word if it support rmvb files soon?

  • Bubba

    VLC Streamer does the streaming
