Row 0 Gives World Junior Hockey Fans a Visual Playbook

by on December 24th, 2011

Canadian Software engineer David Quail has created an app that will aggregate 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship news stories, player tweets, photos, and fan comments. The app, called Row 0, seeks to combine relevant sources of information and filter it into a single output. Think of it as a virtual playbook that is constantly updating.

What makes this app interesting is the story of how it was created. Quail lives in California working for  YouSendIt. American immigration laws prevented developers like Quail from creating non-work related projects inside the United States. With the idea of an aggregated World Juniors app in mind, Quail has been travelling back and forth to Edmonton, working on the app over weekends while staying with friends and family.

This year, the World Juniors are taking place in Edmonton and Calgary with the puck dropping December 26th.

The app works for both iPhone and iPad and is free [iTunes link].

I tried the app, and it seems like it’s either very buggy or just simply a chat engine.

There are no menu items to see stories or read the magazine pictured in the photo above.  Is there a bug preventing any menus from appearing?  Based on the comments in the chat room, I’m not the only confused person trying to find any useful content in this app.
