Netflix iPad App Updated With New Layout

by on March 6th, 2011

Netflix launched in Canada last fall and the iPad app works great. Even though the initial library was limited, more new releases are constantly being added.

Just recently, the iPad app’s layout got a new refresh, and it now looks more like the Netflix iPhone app. The new interface still shows your Top Picks and top movie genres, but now there is more wasted space compared to before. What’s interesting is this update wasn’t through the App Store, it was just updated automatically within the app.

Before:

After:

The frustrating part is when browsing titles by Genres, there is a limit of how many show up even after clicking “more”. After seeing some good recommendations on my Apple TV, I didn’t see them on the Netflix iPad app and had to search for them.

The app still works great, but there needs to be a bookmarking or queuing feature. There are just too many titles I want to watch but keep forgetting about.

New Releases in Netflix Canada

Here are some notable additions I’ve seen added to the library:

  • Prison Break – Seasons 1-4
  • Roswell – Seasons 1-3
  • Volcano
  • Angel – Seasons 1-5
  • Arrested Development – Seasons 1-3
  • Finding Forrester
  • Catch Me If You Can
  • True Grit (John Wayne)
  • Minority Report
  • Hustle and Flow
  • Eddie Murphy – Raw
  • Get Rich or Die Tryin’
  • Drop Zone
  • Defiance
  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • Blue Chip
  • Friday the 13th – Part 1-8
  • Road Trip
  • The Wrestler

Yes, the layout is different, but the speed of the site is greatly improved. Many a time, navigating between selections or even within a particular television season was painfully slow. Not so much anymore, IMO.

There are no words to describe how much Netflix makes me want to scream.

This new layout is along the lines of what they’ve done to the PS3 as well, dumbing it down to remove ANY ability to really browse and experience netflix.

The stupid thing is that I have to go on my browser if I want to browse through a genre and THEN load it up in Netflix. I’ll never use the Netflix crap… I mean, app, to find a show. It’s illogical that they would stick us with the same interface. The iPad is NOT an iPhone. GEEZ.

Netflix, get your head out of your keister and stop screwing this up.

Oh, as for the lack of an “Instant Queue” – guess why I wen tto USVideo and use a US netflix subscription? Yep, stupid things like that and terrible selection.

I kept going for 5 months, giving you my money. I’m done. My patience has run thin.

The new layout is not winning and lacks tiger blood.
