Bing for iPad has been updated to version 1.1, introducing several user experience updates and a new gesture based method of searching.
The new gesture based search is labelled as “Lasso” where users simply use their finger to lasso a word or phrase to do a search. This lasso method is used instead of copying and pasting a word or phrase into a search box.
Today, it can be somewhat painful to search on a tablet when you’re engaged in reading something; just copying and pasting pieces of text from a webpage to a search box can take up to nine steps on the iPad. With Lasso you can circle and search in just two steps.
It is worth noting that the lasso feature of Bing is only usable within the Bing for iPad app and does not replace the copy/paste feature of iOS. Here’s a video (Flash) from the Bing blog:
Bing for iPad is available in the US App Store for free.
