Essential Weather App for iPad

by on August 16th, 2010

I have been on holidays for the past couple of weeks. During my vacation my iPad was an invaluable tool for keeping me up to date with news feeds, sharing of photos and the most up to date weather forecast.  As you know, when on vacation it’s important to know the weather forecast so you can plan your outdoor activities (after all it’s not much fun playing golf in the rain!).

To keep current with the latest weather forecast I used an app called the Weather Office. This app links to the Environment Canada website to give you the most up to date seven day weather forecast. Environment Canada updates their forecast frequently and as a result the Weather Office app always gives you the latest forecast. I’ve used other weather apps but this one was by far the best and most accurate.

The interface for the Weather Office app is very clean and easy to use. I was able to quickly get the weather forecast for my local area and other areas across Canada.  For those of you who have out of town relatives, or who may be travelling out of the country, the Weather Office app has recently added weather forecasts for the USA.

Some of the Weather Office features include:

  • Layout gives you the information you need with no clutter;
  • Fast launch times;
  • Quick switching of sites from your favourites;
  • Cool looking weather icons; and
  • Watches, warnings and alerts.

The Weather Office app is continuously being updated with new features and weather forecast locations.  You can get the Weather Office app for free but it does have some advertising on the bottom. The full version of the app is ad free and is currently on sale for half price at 99 cents and can be located here.

    There is a good Dashboard widget that accesses the same information for when you're on your Mac.

    This looks like a worthy weather app!

    It's the best looking weather app for the iPad, I'll give it that, but it lacks Canadian cities. I still have a preference for “WeatherEye” although it's only in iPhone resolution, but at least you get more cities and easier access to weather maps, weather by the hour, day, week.

    It's kinda limited to the cities Environment Canada/NOAA NWS covers. You should probably note that most other data sources claim coverage of small town, but have no actual observation sites there are simple use the nearest city/airport.
