Double Up Dual-Web Browser For iPad Updated + Giveaway

by on May 18th, 2010

Double Up is a very unique iPad app that we featured in late April. To date, it is the only iPad browser app that offers a dual web page browsing interface, in both landscape or portrait orientation. More recently, the app has received a few updates.

Double Up very much resembles mobile Safari and a recent update has made the toolbar even more Safari-inspired than before. However there are minor differences between Double Up browsing and browsing with Safari. One such example is that Double Up features a dual browsing view where the iPad display is split into two separate web browser windows with one URL/toolbar.

The recent update also added a new optimized layout when in landscape, bringing both web browsing windows side-by-side instead of one browsing window on top of the other.

The app is a great browsing experience for bloggers, for those who want to do comparisons between websites (such as product comparisons), or for those that simply want to multitask.

To browse, simply enter a URL into the toolbar and users can browse as they normally would browse a web page. Tapping once on the second browser window enables use within it and this is also how users switch between browser windows.

The app features bookmarks, back/forward buttons, a refresh button, and a brief settings menu. Double Up also has a settings toggle to make the app enable the last browsing session when the app was last closed.

Double Up is available in the App Store for $1.99.

An intriguing application. I wonder how it handles web pages opening new windows? It would be great if the new window automatically went into the other pane.

Aw! Not fair!! My iPad gets in my hands on the 28th! Not only do I miss out on having an iPad already, but I get to ALSO miss out on apps that I for sure would have had my hands into. Thanks Apple! But! Thank you for the heads up on Double up ipadincanada.ca . I will for sure add the experience once the door is opened for me.

This looks like a great app for multi-taskers…can't wait to try it out when I finally get my iPad on May 28th!

  • Dwight

I love Safari and I love applications that make your life easier. But I never expected one to be as nice-looking at Double Up. Double-Up looks like it could replace Safari and you'd never know it (Except for the awesome new features). This is definitely an amazing application. Hope to see it in action soon!

  • Tom

Thanks for the review. I for one am interested in trying this out. Can't wait til the 28th!

  • All new pages open in the same browsing pane. So it's a little different than regular Safari.

  • CarlosMesser

Am I seeing double? Will this app double my iPad fun? Can't wait to find out!

This app looks great and I like how they have the windows side by side while in landscape mode. I get mine on May 28th as well and can't wait to try out some of these new apps (right after Jailbreaking, lol)

  • mengbers

Love the possibility of this app. I've been playing with different browsers on my iPad but haven't tried this one yet. It looks promising and takes advantage of the iPad resolution. Hope to try it soon!

It seems ironic that, once we get the iPhone OS device with the largest screen yet by far, and we immediately start subdividing it. Think of it this way: I have spent the past three years training myself to browse the web using the tiny screen on the iPod Touch, so even half the screen area of the iPad seems vast!

You don't have to wait for your iPad to arrive to download iPad apps from the iTunes store. I'm also waiting for mine to arrive on the 28th but have already bought over 20 new iPad apps for it. Can't wait to see them on the iPad now. (G) This sounds like a great app to get too!

Double up dual web browser – double your pleasure, double your fun on the new iPad. I'd love to win this one!

  • Double the fun with Double Up gum!

(I just had to say it)

  • iVictoria

I believe the jingle was “double the pleasure, double the fun, with double mint, double mint, double mint gum” and, of course, there were the famous double mint twins who chewed their gum and had a great life….

  • I bow to the Master of the Double Mint

  • Prof_Frink

Can't wait to get my iPad and try this app! 10 days to go!

  • Myodie

Looks like a very useful app. Love to give it a try.

  • radovich

“Dual-Web Browser”, Duable web browser, it will be interesting in html5 times. Does that mean i can watch videos on safari and chrome… at the same time? it's amazing. Converting videos isn't difficult with video converter, but “Dual-Web Browser” is fantastic.

  • troy
