Amazon Kindle App for iPad Previewed

by on March 23rd, 2010

Amazon yesterday released news that they have developed a Kindle app for the iPad. There is already a Kindle app for the iPhone/iPod Touch, but will we see the Kindle app for iPad anytime soon? The app looks quite nice with a simplistic interface. It will be interesting to see if Apple will allow this app to be approved for the iPad.

Apple is known for preventing app approval of programs that replicate the core functions of stock iPhone OS apps. An example is how Firefox and Opera versions for the iPhone have been created, but have yet to see the light of day on an iPhone. It just won’t happen.

Given that the Kindle is a direct competitor to the iPad iBooks store, I will be quite surprised if Apple decides to allow the Kindle iPad app to pass. Here are some screenshot previews of the app–enjoy:

I feel since the iBookstore will not be in Canada at launch it only makes sense to allow the iPad Kindle app. At the same time, as a Kindle user already, it's not going to make a dofference to me, reading on an LCD display is going to kill your eyes so I'll stick with the Kindle anyway.
