iSkin Releases Interesting New Cases for iPad

by on June 21st, 2010

Firstly, Hi there iPadinCanada! Its great to be over here finally blogging about the ‘magical’ iPad – I’ll be bringing you all the news & reviews for iPad products and accessories, so stay tuned for some great contests and giveaways in the coming weeks.

Today I wanted to tell you about the new iSkin cases for the iPad. They just released these last week, and after having a look at them I just knew I had to give my opinion and ask for yours – check it out:

Now, I usually love iSkin products. Not only are they high-quality, but come on – it’s a Canadian Company. Gotta support our local boys, right. But when it comes to these cases, I just don’t know what to make of them.

Well, the Duo’s not so bad. Just your basic silicone case, and the colours really are vibrant. But it leaves the *entire* front of the iPad completely unprotected (although we all have Zagg Shields, right?).  At $49.99 USD, and knowing the quality of iSkins products, that’s a pretty safe bet if you like soft cases.

As for the other, I honestly spent about 15 minutes on the iSkin site before I realized that the Vu was not another silicone case – it’s a hybrid Case. The clear part is hard plastic while the coloured part is soft.

It does offer more protection, and a soft grippy side would probably go well with the hard-back case. At first I was really weirded out by the design – however, after reading the site they explain that the line across the back functions as a separator for the docking hatch. As in, a portion of the case comes off so you can dock or sync your iPad.

OK, to be fair, I’m starting to come around on it. At $64.99 USD it’s more of an investment.  What do you guys think?

Don't think I'll ever cover the aluminum back of the iPad for a plastic, silicone or whatever.
    Keep the metal shining.

I think that's what they're trying to do with the Vu – cater to people who want to show off the back, but still want protection.

    Those prices are absolutely ridiculous…

I wanted a case rather than a sleeve and prefer leather so ended up opting for the Folio fromm Sena
Cases and have been happy so far with it.

I gotta say, I sort of agree with you – honestly $50 (or $70!) for a case is pretty extreme. I'm looking around for less expensive alternatives. I think most people are willing to pay maybe $20-$35 for a quality case, right?

This is the best case I've found so far. http://j.mp/9Tqle8 I don't like these I skins. Too much money for not enough function.
