A recent Kickstarter project called “Etcher” has a group of inventors looking to bring the classic Etch A Sketch to the iPad! While there are a handful of apps that are similar to Etch A Sketch, this project is far more tangible and includes a real-life Etch A Sketch casing.
As seen in the video below, Etcher brings actual knobs to the iPad to enable an almost identical Etch A Sketch experience that many of us remember. As the knobs are turned, the lines appear on the iPad display. It even clears the screen when shaken!
The actual casing is an iPad case that the device slides into. Aside from the Etch A Sketch functions, the case does provide protection and easy access to the home button, both cameras, and volume controls.
Etcher also adds numerous updates to the original Etch A Sketch by allowing users to save their drawings in digital format and share them with friends and family over email and social media.
At this time the project has just under 200 people supporting it and they have almost reached $13,000. Their goal is $75,000 and there are 29 days left. You can pledge a minimum of $1.00, however higher tiers have special bonuses attached.
